The case investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Hafizur Rahman of Bhatara Police Station, stated that 52 out of 54 individuals apprehended on August 14 were initially sent to jail. While 15 suspects have now been remanded, the remaining defendants will be brought in for interrogation in phases. Two other suspects involved in the incident are minors and are currently being held at the Tongi Child Development Center in Gazipur.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, defense lawyers sought to dismiss the remand petitions and requested bail, which the state opposed. After hearing both sides, the court ordered the three-day remand for each of the 15 suspects.

The remanded individuals include Mottalib, Mehzabin Akter Mala, Md. Rubel, G.K. Masud, Antar Mia, Md. Ramzan, Mamun, Mithu alias Amir Hossain, Abdur Rahman alias Abdullah, Md. Suman Mia, Arif Mia, Mostak Mia, Saim Hossain, Zahid Hasan, and Shahin Hossain Imon. All of the suspects are residents of the Narayanganj and Narsingdi districts.

The case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act by Sub-Inspector Asaduzzaman of Bhatara Police Station. According to case documents, police conducted a raid on the night of August 14 at a residence on Road 28 in Block M of the Bashundhara residential area. Authorities claim that the suspects were affiliated with the now-prohibited Awami League, the Jubo Mohila League, and the Chhatra League. Police allege the group had gathered to plan acts of sabotage coinciding with the anniversary of August 15.

During the raid, officers seized two iPhones, one Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and three banners. According to investigators, the banners contained photographs of organization leaders and referenced a scheduled discussion meeting and prayer ceremony.

Police reports indicate that the suspects were chanting anti-government slogans at the time of the arrest. Prosecutors have charged the individuals with conspiracy, assisting in terrorist activities, and attempting to destabilize the country under the guise of political programming.
