Court Delays Filing of Investigation Report in Sharif Osman Bin Hadi Murder Case for 19th Time

A Dhaka court has once again deferred the deadline for submitting a further investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Shahid Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. Presiding over the proceedings on Thursday, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam set September 27 as the new date for the submission.

This latest extension marks the 19th time the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police has been granted additional time to complete its inquiry. The development was confirmed by Sub-Inspector Rukunuzzaman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) prosecution division.

Osman Hadi, who served as the spokesperson and convener of Inqilab Mancha, had announced his intention to contest the 13th parliamentary elections as an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency. Following the announcement of the election schedule, he was shot on December 12 last year in the Paltan area of the capital. He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital. He was subsequently flown to Singapore on December 15 for advanced medical care, where he succumbed to his injuries on the night of December 18.

The incident was initially registered as an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station on December 14 by Abdullah Al Jaber, the then-member secretary of Inqilab Mancha. Following Hadi’s death, the charges were upgraded to murder.

The Detective Branch (DB) of the DMP had previously submitted a charge sheet against 17 individuals, including Faisal Karim Masud, on January 6. However, the plaintiff filed a formal objection to the findings, leading the court to task the CID with conducting a further investigation into the case. The CID has remained responsible for the inquiry since that directive.
