A dispute over the use of a shared water source turned fatal in Comilla’s Titas upazila on Wednesday, leaving a 42-year-old day laborer dead following a brutal attack by his younger brother. The victim, Manik Mia Fakir, was allegedly killed by his brother, Rajib Mia, in the village of Keshobpur, sparking shock and grief within the local community.

According to the victim’s wife, Fatema Akter, the conflict originated from the frequent damage caused to a household tube well that the brothers shared. When Manik Mia requested that his brother handle the equipment with more care to avoid recurring repairs, the suggestion ignited a heated argument. Witnesses stated that the confrontation escalated quickly, leading Rajib to shove his brother to the ground before striking him three times in the neck and shoulder with a spade.

Despite being rushed to the Titas Upazila Health Complex by local residents, Manik Mia was declared dead upon arrival by medical personnel. Local police arrested the suspect roughly three hours after the incident. Following the filing of a murder case by Fatema Akter, the Titas Police Station processed the suspect for judicial proceedings. Officer-in-Charge Momirul Haque confirmed that the victim’s body was transferred to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The accused is scheduled to be remanded to district jail today following his appearance in court.
