China remains steadfast in its opposition to foreign interference in the internal affairs of other nations, a stance it views as a fundamental pillar of its long-standing diplomatic policy. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen reaffirmed this position during a press briefing at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Thursday, following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent high-profile visit to Beijing.
The ambassador’s remarks follow a joint statement issued during the Prime Minister’s visit, which explicitly highlighted China’s commitment to rejecting external meddling in Bangladesh’s domestic issues. Ambassador Yao explained that China’s policy is rooted in its own experience, noting that Beijing frequently faces attempts by foreign actors to influence its internal matters. Regarding ongoing speculation concerning potential military acquisitions—specifically reports suggesting Bangladesh may purchase J-10C fighter jets from China—Ambassador Yao declined to provide specific details. He noted that while the joint statement confirms that both nations have agreed to deepen defense cooperation through regular dialogue, official exchanges, and training programs, he was not in a position to comment on individual procurement contracts. He further added that the two countries have reached a consensus on strengthening communication and coordination within the framework of United Nations peacekeeping operations.
