Chamber of Commerce Elects New President and Vice Presidents

CHATTOGRAM, Bangladesh – Mohammad Amirul Huq has been formally elected president of the Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) following a landslide victory for his United Business Forum panel in the recent elections. The announcement came Monday after newly elected directors convened to form the chamber’s presidium.
The election of Huq, a prominent businessman and managing director of C-Com Group and Premier Cement, marks a significant shift in the leadership of the century-old institution. The directors, assembled at the Chamber office within the World Trade Centre, unanimously ratified the presidium composition, with the election board overseeing the proceedings.

Amjad Hossain Chowdhury was elected senior vice president from the general category, and Mashiul Alam Swapna secured the vice president position representing the associate category. These appointments follow the biennial elections held on Saturday for 18 director positions, with the remaining six directors elected unopposed.
The CCCI’s 24-member board comprises 12 directors from the general category, six from the associate category, and six from the town association and trade group categories. The chamber president and two vice presidents are subsequently elected by these directors.

Huq brings extensive experience to the presidency, having previously served as a director for both the Chattogram Chamber and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI). He also holds leadership roles in the LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association. Amjad Hossain Chowdhury is the managing director of Rising Group, and Mashiul Alam serves as the vice chairman of the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association.
This year’s election saw two major panels compete: the United Business Forum led by Mohammad Amirul Huq and the Collective Business Council led by S.M. Nurul Haque. Sixteen independent candidates also vied for positions. However, the Collective Business Council withdrew from the election on Friday, denouncing it as a “farce.”
A total of 6,780 voters were eligible in the general and associate categories, with approximately 40 percent, or 2,725 voters, casting their ballots. The elected directors include Kamal Mostofa Chowdhury, A.S.M. Ismail Khan, Abu Haider Chowdhury, Md. Amjad Hossain Chowdhury, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Asad Iftekhar, Aman Ullah Al Chagir, Md. Golam Sarwar, Mohammad Habibur Rahman, Mohammad Shafiul Alam, Mohammad Shahidul Islam Chowdhury, and Shahidul Alam from the general category.
From the associate category, the elected directors are Md. Jahidul Hasan, Md. Nurul Islam, Md. Selim Nur, Sarowar Alam Khan, Mashiul Alam, and Mohammad Alauddin Al Azad. In the trade group category, Mohammad Akhtar Parvez, Mohammad Amirul Huq, and S.M. Saif Ullah Al-Mamun were elected directors. The town association directors elected unopposed are Afsar Hasan Chowdhury, Mohammad Monir Uddin, and Mohammad Sajjad Un Newaz.
