Bogra official withdrawn following HSC exam paper delay

Authorities have withdrawn the assistant commissioner (land) for Bogura’s Gabtoli upazila, Shahanaz Parveen, following a significant administrative failure during the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations. The official has been attached to the office of the Divisional Commissioner in Rajshahi after question papers were distributed 22 minutes late at the Syed Ahmed College examination center.

The incident occurred Thursday morning during the geography examination. According to reports from the center, the scheduled start time passed without the arrival of the necessary question papers, sparking frustration and anxiety among the candidates. The delay was brought to the attention of local administration officials by the students immediately following the conclusion of the exam.

In response to the breach in protocol, Bogura Deputy Commissioner Md. Taufiqur Rahman confirmed that a formal investigation committee, led by the Additional District Commissioner for Education and ICT, has been established to probe the circumstances. The deputy commissioner noted that the center secretary and the Gabtoli upazila secondary education officer bear equal responsibility for the systemic failure. A formal request has been sent to the Ministry of Education to initiate disciplinary action against those officials.

Rajshahi Education Board Chairman Shamim Ara Chowdhury described the event as a clear failure of duty and a reflection of incompetence in managing the examination process. She confirmed that the district administration has already forwarded a report from the Gabtoli upazila executive officer regarding the incident. The education board intends to form a separate investigation committee on Sunday to conduct an on-site inquiry, which will serve as the basis for further action against the center secretary.

When contacted for comment, center secretary and Syed Ahmed College Principal Md. Saiduzzaman declined to discuss the incident.
