BNP leader Sultan Salauddin Tuku pledges modern livestock infrastructure for Rajshahi while defending party legacy

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has characterized the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) as the country’s primary representative of the people, asserting that the party has consistently led every major mass uprising and democratic movement in Bangladesh’s history. Speaking at an exchange meeting in Rajshahi on Monday, the minister contrasted the BNP’s historical role with that of other political entities, accusing the Awami League of institutionalizing fascism and orchestrating mass killings, while condemning Jamaat-e-Islami for its opposition to the public interest during the 1971 Liberation War.
The minister’s remarks came during a visit to the Rajshahi City Corporation, where he presided over discussions regarding the development of a modern meat processing center and the restoration of the local zoo. Highlighting the current political landscape, Tuku noted that the public’s confidence remains high in the BNP, viewing the party as a reliable provider of public services. He emphasized that the government has already initiated several welfare-oriented projects shortly after assuming responsibility.

Detailing the infrastructure plans, Tuku announced that a state-of-the-art meat processing facility will be established in Rajshahi to ensure food safety and maximize the utility of livestock resources. He stated that the project aims to eliminate waste by processing animal by-products for export and utilizing waste materials to produce organic fertilizer and biogas. Furthermore, the minister confirmed that plans to modernize the city’s derelict zoo have received positive backing from the Prime Minister, marking a significant step toward addressing a long-standing public demand.
Beyond livestock development, the minister underscored the strategic importance of the Rajshahi region, noting its massive potential in agriculture, silk production, and fisheries. He specifically pointed to the export potential of Rajshahi’s mangoes as a key driver for increasing national foreign exchange earnings. The government, he assured, remains committed to advancing the regional economy by bolstering these industries.

The meeting, chaired by Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, featured contributions from various stakeholders, including local administration officials, law enforcement representatives, and department heads from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. Prior to the formal session, Tuku inspected the proposed sites for the modern slaughterhouse and the zoo, followed by a visit to a regional artificial breeding laboratory and a poultry farm in Godagari. The minister concluded his tour with an inspection of the Shaheed Zia Shishu Park.
