Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully repelled five separate attempts by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push 17 individuals across the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah over the past four days. The confrontations took place along a vulnerable stretch of the border where BGB personnel, bolstered by the vigilance of local residents, intervened to prevent the unauthorized entries.

According to the Maheshpur 58 BGB battalion, the initial incident occurred on June 2 at the Pakrail border. Subsequent attempts by the BSF were consistently blocked as BGB forces maintained a heightened state of readiness. Officials noted that the strategy to thwart these incursions relies heavily on a coordinated effort between military personnel and the local population, who have been alerted to the risks and remain on high alert to assist with border security.

Local residents near the Jadabpur border have confirmed the increased security presence, noting that the community is actively assisting the BGB in monitoring the area. These collective efforts have so far rendered all recent attempts by the BSF to move individuals into Bangladeshi territory unsuccessful.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Rafiqul Alam, the commanding officer of the Maheshpur 58 BGB, emphasized that the unit remains prepared to neutralize future attempts. The Maheshpur sector spans 78 kilometers of the international border, 68 kilometers of which are secured by barbed-wire fencing. The remaining 10 kilometers, particularly near the Nepa and Jadabpur areas, remain unfenced, serving as the primary focus for these recent cross-border pressure points.
