BGB detains three Myanmar security personnel after illegal border crossing

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) forces have detained three members of Myanmar’s security apparatus after they swam across the Naf River to enter Bangladeshi territory. The individuals, identified as members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) and the ruling junta’s security forces, were intercepted near the ice factory in the Naityangpara area of Teknaf municipality on Monday.
The detainees have been identified as Second Lieutenant Hein De Hett of the Maungdaw Town Police Station, police constable Hein Zaw, and Kyaw Naing, a member of the 3rd BGP unit in Buthidaung. According to BGB officials, the men had been held captive by the Arakan Army in Myanmar’s Rakhine State for an extended period.

Preliminary interrogations conducted by BGB officials, assisted by interpreters, revealed that the trio escaped from a residential compound adjacent to the 1st BGP Battalion headquarters—an area controlled by the Arakan Army in the Maungdaw township—on the night of July 19. The men reportedly traveled six kilometers on foot to reach the banks of the Naf River before swimming for two hours to cross the waterway into Bangladesh.
Following their apprehension on Monday afternoon, the individuals were transferred to the Teknaf-2 BGB battalion headquarters for identification. By Monday night, they were handed over to the Teknaf Model Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge of the Teknaf Model Police Station, Mohammad Saiful Islam, confirmed that a case has been filed against the three Myanmar nationals for illegal entry into the country. They are scheduled to be produced before a court in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
