Supporters of the Argentine national football team in Durgapur, Netrokona, have fulfilled a unique promise made at the onset of the World Cup: celebrating their team’s journey to the final by hosting a community feast featuring a buffalo sacrifice.

Members of the local Ekta Samity organization purchased a buffalo for 200,000 taka on Saturday to honor their commitment. The animal was slaughtered on Sunday morning at the group’s office premises near the Marcus intersection in Durgapur municipality. Volunteers are preparing the meal throughout the day, with plans to serve the traditional feast to local supporters and residents shortly before the final match begins tonight.

According to Tajul Islam, an advisor to the organization, the event was conceived as a way to unite the local fan base during the tournament. The group has consistently hosted public screenings of matches on large screens outside their office, fostering a sense of community among local sports enthusiasts.

Ekta Samity President Hossain Ali noted that the decision to host the feast was reached through a consensus among members and supporters. He emphasized that the initiative is intended to amplify the festive spirit and celebrate the team’s success in reaching the championship round.
