The Bangladeshi cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Tareque Rahman, formally approved the “Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Incentive Scheme Policy, 2026” during a meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday. The new policy aims to stimulate economic growth by incentivizing all Bangladeshi citizens, including expatriates, to play an active role in attracting foreign direct investment into the country.

In the same session, the cabinet cleared the draft of the “Bangladesh Medical University (Amendment) Act, 2026.” The legislative update is designed to broaden the scope of the university’s medical services, education, and research capabilities. To facilitate this expansion, the amended law includes provisions that allow the university to establish profit-oriented or non-profit companies and organizations, as well as acquire shares in such entities to bolster its institutional development.
