Bagerhat man arrested for posting defamatory content about Zaima Rahman on Facebook

Police in Bagerhat have arrested a 24-year-old man on charges of posting offensive content regarding Zaima Rahman, the daughter of Tarique Rahman, on social media. The suspect, identified as Sheikh Rasul, also known as Rafiqul, was taken into custody on Monday night from the Badhal area of Kachua upazila.
Rasul, a resident of Gopalpur village and the son of Jahid Sheikh, was formally presented before the Bagerhat Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday afternoon. Following a preliminary hearing, Magistrate Jebunnesa ordered him to be remanded to prison.
The arrest follows a complaint filed by a local resident named Abdus Salam under the Special Powers Act at the Kachua Police Station. According to Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam, investigators determined that the suspect had disseminated disparaging material featuring Zaima Rahman via his Facebook account.
Authorities allege that Rasul obtained the content by downloading a post from a separate social media profile and subsequently resharing it on his own page. The offensive material was reportedly posted in the days following a separate murder case involving an individual named Ramisa in Dhaka’s Mirpur area. Police processed the case under the Special Powers Act before transferring the suspect into judicial custody.
