Alleged Pir beaten to death, vandalized and set ablaze by attacking the hideout in Kushtia

In Kushtia’s Daulatpur Upazila, an alleged pir was beaten and hacked to death after attacking a monastery on charges of blasphemy. At this time, shelters were vandalized and set on fire. This incident took place in Phillipnagar village of Phillipnagar union of the upazila around 2.30 pm today.
The name of the deceased is Shamim Reza alias Jahangir. According to local sources, Shamim Reza is the son of deceased Zecher Ali of Phillipnagar village. He completed his studies in Dhaka and joined the teaching profession. Later he returned to the area and built a shelter.
Kushtia Superintendent of Police Mohammad Jaseem Uddin confirmed this information in the first light around 5:50 in the afternoon. He said that a video of the person was spread on social media, in which objectionable statements about Islam were made. But the video is long ago. As the video went viral recently, local people attacked there. The man was rescued by the police, but the police were outnumbered by the angry crowd. It was not possible to bring it under control. He was beaten to death.
The Superintendent of Police also said, “The situation in the area is calm. A large number of law enforcement agencies have been deployed. How Kara resurfaced the video is being investigated. I am going to the area myself. I will reach in a few minutes.
In May 2021, a case was filed against Shamim Reza at Daulatpur police station on various charges including hurting religious sentiments. Then the police arrested him and sent him to jail. It is alleged that he has started similar activities again after being released after a long imprisonment.
Locals claim that he openly made derogatory comments about the Holy Quran, which hurt the sentiments of devout Muslims. Since this morning there has been tension in the area due to his activities. Later the police arrived at the spot. However, before the situation was under control, the angry locals attacked his residence and vandalized and set it on fire.
