A bus carrying passengers collided with a lorry carrying liquid oxygen in Manikganj Sadar Upazila on Eid. It caught fire and the bus and passengers’ belongings were burnt. A number of passengers were slightly injured as they hurriedly got off the bus.

The incident took place on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Bhatbaur area of ​​Sadar upazila at around 12:30 noon on Monday. At this time, vehicles were stuck on both sides of the highway. Later, when the two accident vehicles were removed from the highway with a wrecker, the traffic flow was normalized after about half an hour.

According to police and local sources of Sadar Police Station, a FK Paribahan bus left for Kushtia from Gabtali in Dhaka this morning. The bus passengers were going to different areas of Kushtia to celebrate Eid with their families. A lorry carrying liquid oxygen coming from the opposite direction collided with the Kushtia-bound bus in Bhatbaur area of ​​Dhaka-Aricha highway around 12:30 noon. The bus caught fire. At this time, the passengers of the bus hurriedly got down through the doors and windows of the bus. Several people were injured.

On receiving the information, police and fire service rescue personnel went and brought the fire under control. But by that time the bus and passengers’ belongings were burnt. Traffic was disrupted for about half an hour from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM in this incident. Vehicles were stuck on both sides of the highway.

A bus passenger named Rabiur Islam spoke to this reporter at Paturia Ghat area today at around two o’clock. The passenger said that he was going to his village home in Kushtia with his wife and children on Eid. The bus caught fire soon after the front part of their bus collided with a lorry carrying liquid oxygen. After that, he and his wife fell from the window of the bus with a child. At this time they were slightly injured. Their various belongings in the bus were burnt. Other passengers’ belongings were also burnt.

Ikram Hossain, officer in charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station, said that no one was injured in the incident. After the accident, traffic was temporarily disrupted. Later, when the two accident vehicles were towed away, the traffic was completely normal.
