19 activists of Awami League are in jail, banning the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ at the funeral

After arresting 19 workers of Awami League banned for chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans at the end of the funeral of former Home and Public Works Minister and brave freedom fighter Mosharraf Hossain, the court sent them to jail in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud gave this order after the hearing today.

Last Thursday at around 11 o’clock in the Jamiatul Falah Mosque premises of the city, the funeral of senior leader Mosharraf Hossain was held. Hundreds of leaders and workers of Awami League and its organizations participated there. At the end of the funeral, the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ was given.

19 people arrested are Mehdi Hasan, Md. Suman, Md. Emon, Mohiuddin, Md. Bashar, Hasan, Sajib, Musa, Joynal, Russell, Saddam Hussain, Alamin, Rakik, Sharif Mia, Sohail, Monir, Raihan, Ilyas and Zahidul Haque.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Aftab Uddin told Prothom Alo that 19 people were arrested while trying to harm the public with sticks and slogans after the funeral. A case has been filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Most of the arrested accused have multiple cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act in the police station. They have been sent to jail through the court.
