Award-winning film Mastul arrives in Bangladeshi theaters following international acclaim

Director Mohammad Nuruzzaman’s acclaimed feature film “Mastul” is set to reach a wider audience as it begins its theatrical run across several major cinemas in Bangladesh. The film will hold daily screenings at the Bashundhara City branch of Star Cineplex at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with an additional two daily shows scheduled at the Cineplex Narayanganj branch. Beyond these venues, the movie is also premiering at Jamuna Blockbuster, Lions Cinemas, and Narayanganj Cineoscope.
The film recently received critical acclaim during a special screening at the Russian Cultural Centre in Dhanmondi, where prominent figures from the film, literary, and cultural sectors lauded its narrative depth, directorial vision, and performances.

“Mastul” explores the poignant relationship between Mokbul, an aging cook on an oil tanker, and Noora, a street child from the port area. Through their bond, the film weaves a complex tapestry of life near the river and port, touching upon themes of solitude, human struggle, the clashing of power, and the resilient drive to survive. The titular role of Mokbul is portrayed by veteran actor Fazlur Rahman Babu, who is joined by a supporting cast featuring Deepak Suman, Aminur Rahman Mukul, and Arif Hasan.
The film’s domestic release follows a successful international festival circuit. Last year, “Mastul” earned a prestigious “Special Mention” at the 47th Moscow International Film Festival, where it was selected for the main competition category. Following that international recognition, the film toured several other global festivals before arriving in local theaters.
