Akshay Kumar Fulfills Promise, Donates ₹10 Million to Transform Remote Border School in Kashmir

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has fulfilled his long-standing promise by donating ₹10 million (1 crore) for the development of a government school in a remote border village in Jammu and Kashmir, significantly improving educational facilities for hundreds of students.
Widely known as “Khiladi Kumar” in Bollywood, Akshay Kumar began his acting career in the early 1990s and has since appeared in more than 100 Hindi films. Over a career spanning three decades, he has earned international recognition for his performances in action, comedy and socially relevant films.
The donation has transformed the government school in Neru Tulail, a remote village in the Gurez Valley of Bandipora District near the India-Pakistan border.
Before the renovation, the school struggled with inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of educational resources, which affected the quality of teaching and learning. Thanks to Akshay Kumar’s financial support, the institution now features a modern academic building equipped with new classrooms, a library, a computer laboratory and improved facilities for both students and teachers.
The actor first visited the village in 2021 after accepting an invitation from the Border Security Force to meet personnel deployed along the border. During his visit, he toured the school and witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by students and teachers. Moved by their situation, he pledged to contribute ₹10 million toward its development.
That promise has now become a reality.
The newly constructed academic building has been named the “Shri Hari Om Bhatia Education Block” in memory of Akshay Kumar’s late father, Hari Om Bhatia.
In addition to modern classrooms, the new facility includes a fully equipped computer lab, a library, dedicated office space for teachers and upgraded infrastructure to support the school’s midday meal programme.
Akshay Kumar has long been recognized for his philanthropic work and has frequently extended financial assistance to various humanitarian and social causes. His contribution to the remote border school adds another chapter to his long record of charitable initiatives, bringing renewed hope and improved educational opportunities to students in one of India’s most isolated regions.
