Actress Elora Gohor Criticizes Jaya Ahsan Over Comments on Meat Consumption and Animal Ethics

Veteran actress Ilora Gohar has publicly criticized fellow performer Jaya Ahsan over recent comments regarding meat consumption and animal welfare. The dispute stems from an interview earlier this year in which Ahsan, a prominent figure in the film industries of both Bangladesh and West Bengal, stated that she no longer enjoys eating fish or meat, noting that consuming animal products feels synonymous with committing an act of killing.

Gohar, known for her role in the film *Bachelor*, took issue with the rhetoric used by Ahsan. In a recent interview, Gohar argued that while Ahsan is entitled to her dietary choices, framing the consumption of meat as “animal killing” is culturally insensitive within the context of Bangladeshi society. Gohar emphasized that meat consumption is both common and religiously accepted, noting that characterizing traditional practices—including the Islamic tradition of Qurbani—as acts of killing is problematic.

The veteran actress suggested that Ahsan should frame her dietary shift as a health-related decision rather than a moral crusade. Gohar noted that while she respects Ahsan’s newfound affinity for gardening and plant-based living, the public discourse around animal ethics should not undermine the cultural norms of the community.

Furthermore, Gohar urged Ahsan to redirect her public platform toward humanitarian efforts. Citing her own history of charity work within Dhaka’s slums and support for the impoverished during winter months, Gohar contended that there is a greater need for “humanitarian love” than for performative animal advocacy. She encouraged Ahsan to engage more directly with the struggles of elderly and marginalized people within the city, suggesting that such contributions would be more impactful than social media posts criticizing the dietary habits of others.

While acknowledging her personal affection for Ahsan, Gohar maintained that the rhetoric used by the model and actress is polarizing. She concluded by reiterating that while Ahsan’s transition to a plant-based lifestyle is a personal matter, it should not serve as a basis for moral judgment against those who continue to follow conventional dietary practices.
