Court bans foreign travel for Awami Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and two others over corruption probe

A Dhaka court on Thursday imposed a travel ban on Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, chairman of the now-prohibited Awami Jubo League, his wife Nahid Sultana, and an individual identified as Tanjin Wahab.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Shahjahan Kabir issued the order following a formal request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, a public prosecutor representing the ACC, confirmed the judicial decision to the media.
The petition for the travel ban was filed by AKM Mahbubur Rahman, the ACC’s deputy director and the lead investigator overseeing the case.
According to the petition, the commission is currently investigating allegations that Parash engaged in large-scale money laundering by funneling illicit funds through bank accounts registered in his name and those of associated entities.
The ACC stated that during the course of the investigation, they received credible intelligence suggesting that the suspects were attempting to flee the country. The commission argued that the departure of these individuals would significantly disrupt the ongoing probe, necessitating the restriction to ensure a transparent and effective investigation.
