Bangladesh Offers Full Support to Nepal Following Devastating Natural Disaster

Bangladesh is prepared to provide comprehensive assistance to Nepal following the devastating natural disaster that struck the Nepal-Tibet border region on Wednesday. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman conveyed this commitment during a telephone conversation with his Nepalese counterpart, Shishir Khanal, on Thursday morning.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a press statement on Thursday afternoon that Minister Rahman expressed deep condolences on behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh. Describing the disaster as a profound tragedy, Rahman stated that the thoughts and prayers of the Bangladeshi people remain with the families who have lost their loved ones.
During the exchange, Minister Rahman delivered a personal message of condolence from Prime Minister Tareq Rahman to Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
While authorities have yet to receive reports of any Bangladeshi nationals among the casualties, Minister Rahman urged the Nepalese government to immediately notify Dhaka should any information regarding citizens of Bangladesh emerge.
Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal expressed gratitude for the solidarity demonstrated by Bangladesh during this crisis. He noted that Nepalese authorities are currently conducting damage assessments and will communicate specific requirements for aid once a full evaluation of the situation is complete.
The disaster, which occurred along the Nepal-Tibet border, has resulted in at least 177 confirmed deaths. Officials report that approximately 1,500 people remain missing, including more than 800 foreign tourists.
