President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the widespread loss of life and destruction caused by a catastrophic natural disaster in Nepal. The President’s press wing confirmed on Thursday that he has extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had previously conveyed heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh to his Nepalese counterpart, Prime Minister Balendra Shah, and the people of Nepal following the tragedy.
The disaster, triggered by flash floods and landslides in the central Bagmati province—specifically affecting Rasuwa and neighboring districts—occurred on Wednesday. Official reports have confirmed at least 165 fatalities thus far.
Nepalese tourism officials and police authorities have indicated that approximately 1,500 people remain missing across Nepal and the Tibet region. The missing group includes more than 800 foreign tourists, complicating ongoing search and rescue operations in the affected mountainous areas.
