Four Killed Including Three Family Members in Road Accident in Sylhet

Four people, including a couple and their young daughter, were killed in a head-on collision between a fuel tanker and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Osmani Nagar, Sylhet, on Saturday.
The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the Brahmanogram area. Local police reported that the fuel tanker, operated by Padma Oil Company and traveling toward Dhaka, collided with the auto-rickshaw, leaving the three-wheeled vehicle completely mangled.
The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Niamat Ali, his 28-year-old wife Hojufa Begum, their six-year-old daughter Ayesha Begum, and the auto-rickshaw driver, 28-year-old Lalon Mia. Niamat Ali was originally from Islampur village in the Ashtagram Upazila of Kishoreganj, while Lalon Mia resided in the Sherpur Majher Bari area of Osmani Nagar.
Two other children of the couple, eight-year-old Maria Akhter and four-year-old Yakub Ali, survived the crash with serious injuries. They are currently receiving treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Relatives stated that the children remain unaware that their parents and sister were killed in the tragedy.
The family had been traveling back to their home in Sriramshi village, located in the Jagannathpur Upazila of Sunamganj, after a four-day visit to Niamat Ali’s ancestral home in Kishoreganj. According to Niamat’s brother, Gazirul Islam, Niamat had recently secured 70,000 taka in micro-credit and family assistance to invest in a poultry farm. Relatives noted that this money, which Niamat was carrying at the time of the accident, was missing from the scene.
Osmani Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Mostafa confirmed that the victims were transported to the hospital, where four were declared dead upon arrival. Sherpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Anisur Rahman stated that both vehicles have been seized as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident.
