BNP leader fined Tk 1 lakh for ‘disappearance case’ in Rajshahi

The fine money will be given to the two accused who served imprisonment in the case. The court also ordered the plaintiff to be imprisoned for one month if the fine is not paid within seven days. Plaintiff Sajjad Hossain filed the case at Damkura police station in Rajshahi metropolis on August 23, 2024 after the mass uprising.

The convicted Sajjad Hossain (46) is the organizing secretary of Haripur Union BNP of Paba Upazila of Rajshahi and the president of ward number 8. His house is in Belua Kholabona village of upazila. Haripur Union Parishad (UP) chairman Bazle Rezvi Al Hasan Munzil, Union Awami League president and UP member Saidur Rahman of ward number 8, along with 13 leaders and workers of the party, were accused in the case.

In the statement of the case, the plaintiff complained that he went to the Kasba High School polling station to cast his vote during the 11th National Assembly election on December 30, 2018. At that time, the accused prevented him from entering the polling station. When he tried to enter, UP Chairman Bajle Rezvi Al Hasan pointed a pistol and threatened to shoot him and the other accused chased him to kill him. At one stage, the accused Babar Ali, Md. reached the house of a person named Rajab. Jahangir, Md. Sohag and Md. Rajiv fired at him with the pistol in their hand. Then the bullet went past him. Accused Badal and others beat him with bamboo sticks, hansua and pasli in their hands, causing bloody injuries in various parts of his body. Later, people around him came and saved him.

However, it was proved in the court that the plaintiff Sajjad Hossain was imprisoned in Rajshahi Central Jail on 30 December 2018. For this, the details of the case have been proven false beyond doubt.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Court Inspector Abdur Rafiq told Prothom Alo that Sajjad Hossain was in jail on the date of the incident. But on that date, he filed a false case against him in the polling station. The court fined him one lakh rupees as the case was proved false. He also said that two accused were arrested and jailed in a false case. They will get 50 thousand rupees as fine. A copy of the bank challan should be submitted to the court after paying the fine within seven days. Otherwise the plaintiff will have to undergo one month imprisonment.

When asked to know, BNP leader Sajjad Ali, the plaintiff in the case, said, “I was actually in jail in a political case.” The matter was not in mind at the time of filing the case. When proved in court, the case was false.
