Four Rangamati Science and Technology University Chhatra Dal leaders resign over corruption allegations

Four student leaders from the Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU) branch of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) have announced their resignations amid allegations of financial misconduct. The officials, including joint conveners Md. Yunus, Md. Soleman Badsha, and Nakibul Absar, alongside committee member Minhaj Uddin, posted their declarations on social media late Saturday evening.

The departing leaders have accused branch member secretary Jisan Ahmed of soliciting and accepting funds illegally from a university official. Nakibul Absar, one of the joint conveners, stated that he could no longer reconcile his ethical standards with the alleged impropriety. He further cited personal grievances, noting that he had been repeatedly removed from internal organizational WhatsApp groups without notice. Absar claimed that these concerns were previously brought to the attention of the central committee, yet no action or response was forthcoming.

While the resignations were announced publicly, the leaders confirmed to the local press that formal letters have not yet been submitted to the central leadership, with plans to finalize the process in the coming days. The university branch’s convener, Nasir Uddin, acknowledged that the four members had declared their exit online but noted that the central JCD committee has yet to provide official instructions regarding the development. The RMSTU branch committee, which consists of 41 members, was originally approved on May 1 of this year by central JCD president Md. Rakibul Islam and general secretary Nasir Uddin.

In response to the allegations, Jisan Ahmed categorically denied any financial wrongdoing, characterizing the claims as a smear campaign. Ahmed alleged that the four leaders had been inactive within the party and consistently failed to participate in or support organizational programs. According to Ahmed, disciplinary notices were issued to two of the four individuals last Tuesday due to their lack of involvement, and he maintains that their social media statements are a retaliatory response to those pending disciplinary actions. Ahmed stated that the matter has been reported to the central leadership.
