After a distinguished 36-year career in education, Abdul Halim Miah, a veteran assistant teacher at Kalian High School in Tangail’s Sakhipur upazila, was given a ceremonial farewell that transformed a standard retirement into a local celebration. On Tuesday, following an official reception held at the school auditorium, colleagues and students arranged a tribute that saw Miah escorted to his home in Shalgrampur village in a decorated, open-top jeep, flanked by a celebratory motorcade.

Miah, who joined Kalian High School in 1989, officially concluded his tenure on May 31. Due to the intervening Eid holidays, the formal farewell ceremony was rescheduled to this week. The event drew former colleagues, school administrators, and community leaders who gathered to honor his legacy as both an educator and a mentor.

As a science teacher, Miah was widely recognized for his hands-on approach to instruction, which made complex subjects accessible and engaging for his students. Former pupils echoed this sentiment, noting that beyond the biology curriculum, Miah instilled deep-seated moral values and a sense of social responsibility in those he taught.
