Motahar Hossain Talukdar has been appointed as the chairman of the newly established Mymensingh Development Authority (MDA), according to a government notification issued late Thursday. The appointment, granted under the Mymensingh Development Authority Act, 2026, mandates that Talukdar relinquish all other professional, business, and organizational ties to serve a one-year contract at the Grade-2 level.

The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Golam Rabbani of the Ministry of Public Administration’s Contract and Foreign Recruitment wing, formalizes the government’s objective to oversee the planned urban growth of the Mymensingh region. Talukdar, who previously contested the 13th parliamentary elections, expressed his commitment to fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by the Prime Minister.

Outlining his vision for the region, Talukdar emphasized a commitment to transforming Mymensingh into a planned, aesthetically pleasing city. He highlighted plans to utilize the land across the Brahmaputra River to integrate modern urban development with the city’s natural geography, aiming to create a distinct and recognizable metropolitan identity for residents and visitors alike.

The government officially established the Mymensingh Development Authority on January 12 to address the urgent need for structured urban management. Operating under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, the authority is tasked with maintaining ecological balance, preventing haphazard construction, enforcing land-use regulations, and implementing a comprehensive master plan.
