BSF retreats as push-in attempt of 28 individuals at Bangladesh border fails

A group of 28 individuals, who had been stranded at the zero line of the Bangabari border in Chapainawabganj’s Gomastapur upazila for two days, have disappeared, with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials suspecting they were returned to the Indian interior by the Border Security Force (BSF).

The group had been trapped in the no-man’s-land since the early hours of June 4, when the BSF first attempted to push them across the border into Bangladesh. The effort was thwarted by the BGB, whose vigilant posture and immediate tactical response prevented the group from entering the country. Following the failed entry attempt, the individuals were forced to remain in the zero line area, enduring harsh weather conditions for 48 hours.

According to a press release issued by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam, commander of the 16 BGB Battalion, the group had been positioned approximately 50 yards within the Indian side of the zero line. As of Saturday morning, surveillance indicated that the individuals were no longer present within the 150-yard border zone. Officials believe the BSF relocated the group further into Indian territory under the cover of darkness on Friday night.

The BGB maintains that it is closely monitoring the situation along the frontier. Security personnel remain on high alert to address any further developments and to prevent any potential unauthorized incursions along the border.
