International Museum Day is today Monday (May 18). This year the theme of the day is ‘Museum bridging the divided world’.
On the occasion of the day, the National Museum has organized a day-long programme. Programs include processions, special exhibitions, discussions and cultural events.

A press release of the National Museum informed about the program, a procession from Shahbagh in the capital to Dhaka University’s TSC at 10 am. This is followed by a special exhibition at the museum’s Nalinikant Bhattsali Exhibition Gallery. Discussion based on the theme of the day at 11:30 am in the main auditorium of the museum. Cultural program at 4 pm.
On the occasion of the day, Heritage Foundation organized an online seminar last Saturday. It features keynotes on ‘Museums, memory and peacebuilding: Institutional roles in strengthening social cohesion’. This article was presented by International Council of Museums (ICOM) USA member Nandan Shastri. The seminar featured a video message by ICOM President Anthony Rhodes on the role of museums in bridging the current divided world.

Jahangir Hossain, Director General of Heritage Foundation gave a welcome speech at the seminar. He said that the museum is a light of hope in the reality of a divided world. It helps to understand the present from past learning. Contributes to building a tolerant, inclusive and inclusive society for the future. Therefore, the International Museum Day should be a pledge to make museums not just a place of exhibition, but a meeting place for humanity.
Prof. Shikdar Zulkarnain, Deputy Director of SAARC Cultural Center, Professor Mohammad Sohrab Uddin, former Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences of Comilla University, Fatima Jamila, Assistant Professor of BRAC University and Ataur Rahman, Deputy Director of Directorate of Archeology participated in the discussion. Museum, heritage, archeology and cultural experts from the United States, India and Bangladesh participated in the event.
On the occasion of the day, on May 15, Jahanara Foundation and Heritage Foundation jointly organized a seminar titled ‘Echoes of Tomorrow: A Museum of Unity’. Former Additional Secretary of Bangladesh Government and Director of Heritage Foundation Alam Ara Begum was present as the chief guest on the occasion. Rashedul Alam Pradeep, Curator of Toshakhana Museum presented the main article. Discussed by Secretary of ICOM Bangladesh and Keeper of Bangladesh National Museum. Serazul Islam. Jahanara Foundation President Zeenat Parveen presided. Jahangir Hossain, Director General of Heritage Foundation gave the welcome speech. Jahanara Foundation Museum Secretary Anzalur Rahman thanked.
After the event, the participants visited the Jahanara Foundation Museum. They appreciate a rich museum of family collections.
