Press conference of urban health care workers demanding job retention

As the process of handing over the health centers under the ‘Urban Primary Health Care Services Delivery Project’, which is one of the hopes for the primary health care of the poor people in the urban areas, has started to be transferred to the Ministry of Health, there has been uncertainty about the jobs of thousands of officials and employees working in the project. In this situation, they demanded to maintain the jobs of 4 thousand 382 officials and employees. They want job security even if they go under the Ministry of Health.
The officials and employees of ‘Urban Primary Health Care Services Delivery Project-2nd Phase’ made this demand in a press conference organized at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall of Jatiya Press Club at 10:30 am today.
In the press conference, it was said that 192 health centers built under the project have been transferred from the local government department to the Ministry of Health. As a result of this, there is uncertainty about the job retention of 4 thousand 382 skilled and experienced officers and employees working in the project PMU, PIU and project area.
According to the press release of the press conference, these urban health centers, the main hope of primary health care for slum dwellers and low-income people in the city, are now in crisis of existence. In the absence of clear guidelines on the handover process, both project activities and manpower are at risk.
