Worker killed in stabbing at Dhaka market; 10 suspects arrested

A 19-year-old laborer was killed in a stabbing incident at the Bengal East Market in the Sadarghat area of Sutrapur, Dhaka, on Saturday night. Police have since arrested 10 individuals in connection with the homicide.

The victim, identified as Mithun Sardar, was a resident of the market premises where he was employed. According to his cousin, Sohag Sardar, the victim hailed from Jhalokathi Sadar Upazila and was the son of Rasel Sardar.

Sohag Sardar stated that the confrontation began following a heated argument between the victim and another laborer at the market. During the altercation, Mithun was stabbed in the chest. He was rushed to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, commonly known as Mitford Hospital, where he was declared dead by attending physicians at approximately 10:00 p.m.

Motiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sutrapur Police Station, confirmed that a formal case has been filed regarding the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that the stabbing was the result of a long-standing personal enmity.

The OC noted that the 10 suspects currently in custody are providing conflicting accounts during interrogation. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter to determine the exact motive and circumstances surrounding the death.
