Police recover body of Rangpur polytechnic student from residential hall

Police in Rangpur recovered the hanging body of a 21-year-old student from a dormitory in the Purbo Shalbon area on Sunday afternoon. The deceased, Mimtaj Khatun, was a seventh-semester student at the Rangpur Government Polytechnic Institute.

Authorities discovered the body after breaking down the door of her room in the student dormitory. According to police, fellow students raised an alarm after receiving no response from Mimtaj earlier in the day. Upon arrival, officers from the Kotwali Police Station found the victim hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf.

Mimtaj Khatun was the daughter of Mohammad Ali and Manjuara Begum, hailing from Dhubni village in the Singimari Union of Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha Upazila.

Nazmul Kader, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station, stated that the incident was reported around noon. Police have sent the body to the Rangpur Medical College morgue to undergo a post-mortem examination.

Investigators recovered a two-page handwritten note from the scene. While the police confirmed that the note contains significant information, the contents are currently being withheld to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have initiated a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death.
