### Bowler Banned from PSL After Renegade IPL Contract
A Zimbabwean fast bowler has been banned from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for two years after reneging on his contract with the Islamabad United franchise to join the Indian Premier League (IPL). Blessing Muzarabani, 29, was initially signed by Islamabad United as a replacement player for the PSL.
However, Muzarabani subsequently accepted an offer from Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, withdrawing from his PSL commitment. The PSL authorities stated in a release that such actions undermine professionalism, transparency, and the integrity of contractual agreements within franchise-based leagues. The decision to impose a two-year ban reflects the seriousness of this breach.
Muzarabani has already participated in two matches in the ongoing IPL season, notably taking 4 wickets for 41 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in his second outing.
This incident follows a similar case where South African cricketer Corbin Bosch was banned from the PSL for one year for a comparable contractual violation. Australian Spencer Johnson and Sri Lankan Dasun Shanaka have also reportedly withdrawn from PSL contracts to participate in the current IPL season, with potential punitive measures from the PSL anticipated for them as well.
The situation highlights the complexities and potential conflicts arising from player contracts across different lucrative cricket leagues. Previously, Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman was reportedly excluded from the IPL due to threats from right-wing Hindu groups, a decision that led to Bangladesh's withdrawal from the T20 World Cup in India and a broadcast suspension of the IPL in Bangladesh. Rahman was initially acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for a record sum of 92 million Indian Rupees.
