Online Survey on Pay and Allowances of Government Employees Begins

Citizens of Bangladesh will now be able to give their opinions on how much salary and allowances government employees should receive. They can also suggest whether house rent, health, and education allowances should be increased.
The National Pay Commission 2025 has launched an online survey today (October 1), which will continue until October 15. Any Bangladeshi citizen can participate by visiting the official website of the commission.
Who Can Participate
The survey is open to four categories of participants:
- General citizens
- Government employees
- Government institutions
- Associations and organizations
On July 27, the interim government formed the 23-member National Pay Commission 2025, headed by former finance secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan.
What the Survey Asks
The online questionnaire contains 35 questions for general citizens. Key questions include:
- What should be the minimum basic salary for a government employee supporting a six-member family?
- How should salaries and allowances be adjusted to inflation?
- Should education and medical allowances be increased?
- Is the current house rent allowance sufficient?
- Does low salary lead to corruption among government employees?
- Are post-retirement benefits adequate, or should they be increased?
Statement from the Commission
At the beginning of the survey, the commission stated that its primary goal is to formulate a fair and sustainable pay structure for officers and employees of government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, state-owned banks and financial institutions, public universities, and state-owned industries.
The commission believes that by collecting thoughtful opinions from all segments of society, it will be able to recommend a pay structure that is consistent with the country’s economic growth, inflation, and development strategy.
