No Possibility of Instability Surrounding the Election: Home Affairs Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that there is no possibility of any unstable situation arising in the country centering the upcoming national election.
He made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking to journalists after the passing-out parade of the 63rd batch of female prison guards at the Parade Ground of the Prison Training Centre located inside the Kashimpur Jail Campus in Gazipur.

Responding to a question regarding alleged provocative statements made about Bangladesh’s election by deposed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while staying in Delhi, the Home Affairs Adviser said, “There is no possibility of destabilising the country. If they had the courage, they would have come to the country and spoken here. They are within the framework of the law and could have returned and spoken under legal protection. Since they lack that courage, they are making statements while remaining in hiding.”
He further said that the Awami League, whose activities have been banned, no longer enjoys the kind of support it once had in the country. “Those who were their supporters and those involved in terrorist activities have dispersed. Many of them have left the country and taken shelter in different parts of the world,” he added.

Referring to what he described as “fascist militant elements,” the adviser said, “These elements have fled the country and taken refuge abroad. We urge the countries hosting them to return these fascists.”
Answering another question, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that due to space constraints at Kashimpur Jail, the government is considering constructing another prison in Keraniganj.
He also stated that the recruitment process for various forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs has been conducted in a transparent manner. “There have been no irregularities in the recruitment process,” he said.
