The member secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal unit in Bagatipara upazila of Natore was expelled from his organizational position on Wednesday night (October 16) following the virality of a video on social media showing him consuming narcotics.
The expulsion order was officially announced through a press release signed by Asif Iqbal, office secretary of the Natore district Chhatra Dal branch. The disciplinary action was formally endorsed by District Chhatra Dal President Kamrul Islam and General Secretary Maruf Islam.
According to party officials, Shahriyar Mahmud, who served as the member secretary of the Bagatipara Upazila branch and is also known by his alias Shadhin, faced the punitive measure based on explicit allegations of breaching organizational discipline.
The controversy erupted earlier on Wednesday afternoon when video footage depicting Mahmud engaging in drug consumption began circulating widely across various social media platforms, drawing severe criticism and prompting immediate intervention by the district leadership.
