Teenager missing after falling from houseboat in Tanguar Haor
A 17-year-old boy went missing on Saturday after falling from a houseboat into the Patlai River while touring the Tanguar Haor wetlands in Sunamganj.
The victim, identified as Tamim Islam, is the son of Mujibur Mia from Goluya village in the Dharmapasha upazila. The incident occurred in the Sripur Bazar area around midday as the houseboat was returning from a sightseeing excursion.
According to local reports, the victim was part of a group of approximately 60 youths who had chartered the "Ma-Babar Doa" houseboat to visit the Tanguar Haor and the nearby Shaheed Siraj Lake, commonly known as Niladri, in Tekerghat.
Witnesses stated that Islam fell from the roof of the vessel into the river during the return journey. Despite immediate efforts by his companions and local residents to locate him in the water, he remained missing as of 5:00 p.m.
Tahirpur Police Station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam confirmed the incident and reported that a dedicated diving team has been dispatched from Sunamganj to conduct a formal search operation. Authorities, supported by the local community, are continuing their efforts to locate the teenager.
