Narsingdi man arrested after video captures dog thrown into river with bricks tied to neck
Police in Narsingdi have arrested a 25-year-old man following the viral circulation of a video showing him throwing a dog with a brick tied to its neck into a river from the Nagariakandi Bridge. The suspect, identified as Mohammad Ali, son of Abdur Rob from the Kamargaon area, was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when Ali was filmed on the bridge with a dog tied to a rope, the other end of which was secured to a heavy brick. The footage shows Ali standing with three other individuals, including a woman, before handing the tether to a companion and tossing the dog and the brick into the water together. The animal was seen struggling and drifting away in the river after the fall.
The video surfaced on social media on Thursday morning after being uploaded by the Facebook page "Animal Community Welfare of Bangladesh." The footage drew widespread public condemnation and caught the attention of local community members. Siddiqur Rahman, president of the Narsingdi District Chhatra Dal, reportedly ordered his associates to locate Ali after seeing the video.
By Thursday afternoon, Ali was brought back to the Nagariakandi Bridge, where a large crowd confronted him. Under public pressure, Ali was forced to apologize and perform squats while holding his ears, repeating the phrase, "We are humans; let us not be beasts."
Narsingdi Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Noman Sadekin confirmed that officers arrived at the scene shortly thereafter to take Ali into custody. Formal legal proceedings are currently underway against the suspect. Authorities stated that the investigation remains active and that they are working to identify and apprehend the three other individuals seen assisting Ali during the incident.
