Police recover human remains near irrigation canal in Rangpur
Police in Rangpur’s Taraganj upazila recovered human remains, including a skull and a decomposed skeleton, along the banks of the Teesta irrigation canal in the Kuthipara area of Sayar union on Friday afternoon.
The grim discovery occurred when local farmers working in adjacent fields noticed a strong odor emanating from the canal embankment. Upon investigating the source, the farmers first located a human skull, followed by the rest of the skeletal remains abandoned in nearby bushes. The incident quickly drew hundreds of onlookers from surrounding areas, fueling speculation among residents that the unidentified individual may have been the victim of a homicide. Local witnesses reported observing reddish, blood-like stains on the grass near the skull, suggesting a violent encounter.
Taraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ruhul Amin confirmed that law enforcement arrived at the scene shortly after 5:00 p.m. to secure the remains. Authorities have since alerted the police crime scene unit to assist in the investigation. While the gender and identity of the victim remain unknown, police have stated that a formal cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination.
