Role of Armed Forces to be made more visible: Defense Adviser

Prime Minister's Defense Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) has instructed to make the multidimensional role of armed forces more visible to the people through proper information flow and public involvement. AKM Shamchul Islam. He said this while visiting Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) at Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday.

During the visit, Defense Advisor with the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense. Ashraf Uddin was present. After reaching the ISPR Directorate, he was welcomed by Director of the Directorate Lt. Colonel Sami Ud Daula Chowdhury. At this time, the Defense Adviser got to know the officers and employees of the Directorate and exchanged skills.

The ISPR Director briefed the Defense Adviser on the overall activities of the Directorate, scope of responsibilities, coordination with the media, news delivery process and ongoing initiatives to highlight the activities of the armed forces to the public. At this time, the current capacity of the department, institutional limitations and future development plans were also discussed.

After visiting various branches of ISPR, the Defense Adviser said that the armed forces play an important role in protecting the freedom, sovereignty and security of the country as well as supporting the people in disasters and crises. Their professionalism and humanitarian role is increasing the status of the country in the international arena as well.

Shamshul Islam pointed out that in many cases due to the lack of conservative information flow and adequate publicity, the people do not get a proper understanding of the multi-dimensional activities of the armed forces. In this context, he directed the ISPR to strengthen the communication of the armed forces with the people.

Highlighting the importance of presenting the right information at the right time in the current era of information flow, the Defense Adviser said that ISPR should work through a more modern and effective communication infrastructure to uphold the national interest and the image of the armed forces. He emphasized on strengthening research, data preservation, digital communication and public engagement initiatives.

He also provided the necessary guidelines for improving the quality and institutional capacity of the Directorate in order to properly present the activities of the armed forces in the national and international arena.
