Nepalese anti-drug campaigner harassed by auto-rickshaw driver in Bangladesh
A Nepali cyclist promoting drug-free living in Bangladesh has sparked widespread public concern after being involved in an altercation with a local driver in Chittagong’s Satkania sub-district. Bishwas Rai, a 25-year-old traveler from Nepal’s Ilam district, documented the confrontation in a video posted to his verified Facebook page on Friday afternoon, prompting an immediate outcry from viewers online.
Rai, who embarked on a cycling journey from his home country on May 18 to advocate for drug awareness, was reportedly traveling through the Keranihat cattle market area on Thursday when the incident occurred. The footage depicts a heated exchange between the cyclist and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw driver, reportedly stemming from a dispute over traffic regulations and the use of the vehicle's horn.
The video, which spans nearly four minutes, quickly gained traction as social media users condemned the treatment of the foreign visitor. Local authorities have since acknowledged the incident, though no formal complaint has been filed by the tourist.
Ariful Islam Siddiqui, the additional superintendent of police for the Satkania circle, confirmed to local media that investigators have identified the auto-rickshaw driver involved in the argument. While police remain aware of the situation, officials noted that they are prepared to take legal action should the victim choose to file an official report.
