The young man's name is Ashiq Mondal. Jhenaidah is a resident of Kasthasagra village of Sadar Upazila. He works in a community center in Jhenaidah city. Also involved in NCP politics. Chhatra Dal claims that the young man who took out the 'firearm' is a member of a secret organization. However, the NCP says that the young man wearing the blue colored genji is an NCP volunteer. The object taken from the pocket is not a firearm; Ashiq had a china stick in his hand, which was kept for safety.
Nasiruddin Patwari was coming out with the leaders and workers after Friday prayers at the old Collectorate Jame Masjid of Jhenaidah city yesterday afternoon. At that time the convenor of Islami University Chhatra Dal Saheed Ahmed was talking to him. At one stage, Nasiruddin Patwari was attacked from the side and eggs were thrown. In this incident, 15 to 20 people wearing genji are seen active. Nasiruddin Patwari and five members of anti-discrimination student movement and Chhatra Dal were injured in this.
After the incident, a video of a youth dressed in Akashi Genji pulling out a weapon-like object from his pocket went viral on social media. In that video, it can be seen that at one stage of the attack, a young man named Ashiq took out the object from his pocket and tried to kill him. He put the object back in his pocket when another man in Punjabi stopped him
An eyewitness on condition of anonymity told Prothom Alo that he prayed next to Nasiruddin Patwari. While they were in the mosque, they went to Nasiruddin Mosque. At this time, some people wearing blue genji surrounded him. Later during the conflict, the activity of the people wearing Akashi Genji is more visible.
Talking to the residents of Kasthasagra village, Ashiq Mandal's family was earlier associated with Awami League politics. But Ashiq did not do any active politics. After the reshuffle of August 5, 2024, he became active in NCP politics. He is seen pulling out something that looks like a weapon during the confrontation.
District Chhatra Dal president Imran Hossain said that Ashiq, a member of the secret organization, took out his weapon and rehearsed. The members of militant organizations have created this situation in a planned way. They were already preparing. They demanded justice for this incident.
When asked, Hamid Parvez, joint coordinator of Jhenaidah district of NCP, said that the boys wearing Akashi Genji were volunteers. Ashiq had a china stick in his hand, which was kept for safety. There was no show of arms.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against the president-general secretary of Jhenaidah District Chhatra Dal and 110 to 115 unknown persons, but no one has been arrested so far. Last night, NCP central joint member secretary Tarek Reza filed the case as plaintiff. Before that, Nasiruddin Patwari stayed at the police station from noon to 10 pm demanding to take the case. Later he left Jhenaidah under police escort.
On the other hand, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists held a protest march in the city around 9 pm to protest the case. District BNP called a press conference on this this morning but it was postponed. District BNP general secretary Zahiduzzaman Mana confirmed this information in a circular.
Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station OC (Investigation) Gokul Chandra told Prothom Alo that the situation is normal at present. No one has been arrested so far in the case filed in connection with the attack on Nasiruddin Patwari. The case is under investigation.
