Annual procession in Dhanmondi called 'Mangal Shobhayatra'
An organization called 'Varshavaraan' organized a procession called 'Mangal Shobhayatra' under the slogan 'Mars is there, Mars will be'.
Today, Tuesday, this new year festival 1433 started in front of Meena Bazar in Dhanmondi 27 of the capital.
Before the start of the procession, the New Year ceremony started with the National Anthem, followed by Dhandhanya Pushpabhara, followed by the song 'Eso Hey Boishakh'. The procession starts from the front of Meena Bazar, turns around the main road of Dhanmondi 27 and ends in front of Meena Bazar again.
Kankan Naga is one of the organizers of Mangal processions and cultural events. He told Prothom Alo, 'We have been doing this event in Dhaka for many years. That is Mars procession. We want to maintain this. We want it to be celebrated as Mangal Shobhayatra.
Kankan Nag does not see any justification for changing the name 'Mangal Shobhayatra'. He said that not only fine arts have been celebrating Mangal Shobhayatra since 1990, it has been organized in Bangladesh for a long time under the same name. I don't see any justification for changing its name.
Regarding the name 'Mangal Shobhayatra', he said, 'The main reason behind the name Mangal Shobhayatra is that we want to spread such a message on the first day of the year that people can start the year with Mars. Against all divisions, conspiracies so that people can start the year with the message of Mars.'
Regarding Mangal Shobhayatra, general secretary of Udichi artist group Amit Ranjan Dey said, 'Mangal Shobhayatra started under this name in 1989 during the anti-Ershad movement. But since two years ago, the Udichi artist group started this annual procession called Mangal Shobhayatra in Jessore. Later, people came together with it, it stood as part of a tradition from coming together.
Cultural program started after the procession. In the beginning, the members of the Udichi artist group performed the song. Then Bratchari dance was performed by artists of Taxila organization. Rabindra Sangeet was performed by Maqbul Ahmed, poetry was covered by Iqbal Khorshed, Mostafizur Rahman.
