Gas Cylinder Explosion Leaves Three Family Members Critically Injured in Dhaka
Three members of the same family were critically injured early Tuesday morning when a gas cylinder exploded in their apartment in the Natun Bazar area of Bhatara, Dhaka. The victims, who were asleep at the time of the blast, sustained severe burns and are currently receiving emergency treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The victims have been identified as 24-year-old garment shop employee Md. Shahin, his 21-year-old wife Fahima Akter, and their 8-year-old niece, Hafsa. According to the couple’s colleague, Md. Josim, who assisted in transporting them to the hospital, the family resided on the ground floor of a six-story building. The explosion, which triggered a fire in their living quarters, is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak.
Medical professionals at the burn institute have reported that the victims are in critical condition. Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the facility's emergency department, stated that Shahin suffered burns across 50 percent of his body, while Fahima and Hafsa sustained burns to 45 percent and 40 percent of their bodies, respectively.
Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the gas leak and the subsequent explosion.
