Undercover officer disguised as farmer arrests fugitive convict in Chapainawabganj
A fugitive convicted on drug charges was apprehended in Chapainawabganj on Saturday after a local police officer executed a strategic undercover operation. Sushil, a resident of Nachole upazila’s Rajbari Hat area, had been in hiding for nearly three months following a court verdict that sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment for violating narcotics control laws. In addition to the prison term, the court had imposed a 5,000 taka fine, with an additional three-month term of simple imprisonment should he fail to pay.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Farhad Hossain of the Nachole Police Station spearheaded the mission after previous attempts to locate the suspect proved unsuccessful. According to police officials, three prior raids had failed to yield an arrest, as the convict remained adept at evading law enforcement. Acting on a tip-off that the suspect was working in a field in the Raota village of Naogaon’s Niamatpur upazila, ASI Hossain opted for a tactical disguise.
Trading his uniform for a lungi and appearing shirtless to resemble a local farmer, ASI Hossain approached the field while his team remained on standby at a nearby market. Recognizing the risk as the officer drew near, the suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot. A brief chase ensued, resulting in the successful capture of the convict.
Sukomal Chandra Debnath, officer-in-charge of Nachole Police Station, confirmed that the arrest followed a verdict issued by the Chapainawabganj Joint District and Sessions Judge Court-2. The suspect has since been taken into custody to serve his sentence.
