Three dead in electrocution accident in Chapainawabganj
Three people, including a mother and her young daughter, were killed by electrocution on Tuesday morning in the Barghoria-Badurtala area of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila.
Local authorities identified the victims as Hasina Begum, wife of Mohammad Bhikhu, and her niece Asha Khatun, along with Khatun’s young daughter, Mim. Sub-Inspector Khursida Begum of the Sadar police station confirmed the fatalities to local media outlets.
According to Harunur Rashid, chairman of the Barghoria Union Parishad, the tragedy unfolded when a metal ladder, left outside a home, became electrified during morning rainfall. The incident began when Asha Khatun and her daughter, Mim, attempted to climb the ladder and came into contact with the current.
Hasina Begum reportedly rushed to assist the pair, but she was also electrocuted upon touching them. All three victims died at the scene. Police arrived shortly after the incident to recover the bodies and initiate an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
