Two Madrassa Students Drown in Panchagarh as Search Continues for Missing Brothers in Lalmonirhat River

Tragedy struck in northern Bangladesh on Sunday as drowning incidents in Panchagarh and Lalmonirhat claimed two lives and left two siblings missing.
In Panchagarh, two madrasa students drowned while bathing in a pond in the Dashmail South Sahebijoat area. The victims were identified as 14-year-old Abdur Rahim and 16-year-old Rajib Hossain, both residents of the Satmera Union. According to local officials, the two teenagers had gone to the pond following their classes. When they failed to return to the surface, local residents launched a search and eventually recovered their bodies from the water.

Panchagarh Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ashraful Islam confirmed that the bodies were recovered and released to the families following the completion of inquest reports. Authorities have since filed a case of unnatural death regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, a separate emergency operation is underway in Lalmonirhat after two brothers went missing in the Dharla River. The victims, 14-year-old Shawon and 15-year-old Sabbir, were swimming near the Mogalhat Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp alongside a friend when they were swept away by a strong current. While their companion managed to swim to safety, the brothers were pulled under the water.

Local residents, along with units from the Lalmonirhat Fire Service and BGB, initiated a search operation shortly after the incident occurred. Despite an extensive effort that continued into the evening, rescuers had not located the missing youths as of 7:30 p.m. Police remain on the scene as the search mission continues.
