Two Madrasa Students Die After Electrocuted in Brahmanbaria Pond

Two students at an Islamic seminary died Sunday evening after suffering fatal electric shocks in a pond in Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj upazila. A third student remains hospitalized in critical condition following the incident.

The victims have been identified as 8-year-old Chan Badsha and 12-year-old Riyan Niyaz, both students at the Bahadurpur Khandaker Babul Shah Hafizia Madrasa and Orphanage. The injured survivor, 13-year-old Md. Rahim, is currently receiving treatment at the Brahmanbaria General Hospital.

Local residents and police reported that the students had gone to the pond near their madrasa to bathe after playing sports. A live power line running over the pond had snapped and fallen into the water, electrifying the pond without the children’s knowledge. As they entered the water, all three were immediately struck by the electrical current.

Bystanders acted quickly to cut the power supply and retrieve the students, rushing them to the Ashuganj Upazila Health Complex. Attending physicians declared the two boys dead upon arrival, while Rahim was transferred for advanced medical care.

Ashuganj Police Station inspector Abu Hena Md. Mostafa Reza confirmed the details of the tragedy, stating that authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fallen power line and will take necessary legal action.
