The High Court ordered the formation of an investigation committee to identify those responsible
The High Court has ordered the formation of a three-member inquiry committee to identify those responsible for negligence in the case of two doses of rabies vaccination instead of routine vaccination of a child in Bhuyapur, Tangail. The investigation report has been asked to be submitted to the court within 30 days.
At the same time, the court ordered to ensure proper treatment of the child immediately. The High Court bench consisting of Justice Ahmed Sohail and Justice Fatema Anwar gave this order along with the ruling on the preliminary hearing of a writ.
The ruling sought to know why the child’s family should not be ordered to pay compensation of Tk 50 lakh for proper treatment including diagnosis of health complications due to wrong vaccination. The respondents, including the secretary of the health care department of the health ministry, the director general of the health care department, the civil surgeon of Tangail, have been asked to respond to the ruling within four weeks.
Earlier, a report was published yesterday in the online edition of a newspaper under the title ‘One-month-old child was forgotten about rabies vaccine – instantly dull’. Attaching the report, the writ was filed on behalf of the human rights organization Law and Life Foundation Trust.
Advocate Mohammad Humayon Kabir heard the writ in court. Deputy Attorney General Mahfuz bin Yusuf was for the state.
Later, lawyer Humayon Kabir told Prothom Alo that the High Court has ordered the Health Secretary to form a three-member investigation committee headed by a government health expert in the case of wrong vaccination of the child. The inquiry report has also been directed to be filed in the court in the form of an affidavit within 30 days.
According to the report published in the online version, while going to vaccinate a one-month-old child at Tangail’s Bhuyapur Upazila Health Complex, the child was given rabies vaccine by mistake. After some time, the child named Fahita fell unconscious, her family members said. In this incident, the family members of the child demanded justice for the people involved in the incident. On the other hand, the hospital authorities said that this vaccination was given by mistake.
According to the child’s relatives, Mohammad Qayyum, Health Inspector of Upazila Health Complex, gave this vaccination to the child. After vaccination, the child gradually becomes dull. They are mistreated if they protest after being given the wrong vaccination. The victim child is Mau Khatun of Chabbisha village of Fahita upazila and Md. The report mentions that Farooq’s daughter.
