The family could not be saved even with a ransom of 48 lakh rupees

Another young man from Madaripur has died due to the torture of brokers in Libya’s detention center on his way to Italy illegally. He died last Tuesday around 1:00 PM Bangladesh time while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Libya.
Deceased Tashir Fakir (40) is the son of Kalu Fakir of Ghoshalkandi village of Rajair upazila. The family members came to know about his death on Tuesday. According to Tashir’s family, he was killed with difficulty even after paying a ransom of 48 lakhs as demanded. Relatives and residents of the area have demanded justice for the Bangladeshi broker involved in the incident.

In the last two months, two young men of Madaripur’s Dasar Upazila and a young man of Kalkini have died in Libya due to the torture of brokers without getting the ransom money. Before this, people who wanted to immigrate died in boat capsizing, but there were not many deaths in prisons due to the torture of brokers.
According to the relatives and local sources of the deceased Tashir, Tashir Fakir was a tea shopkeeper. He used to run the family with the income of the shop. He has three daughters, wife and parents. Eight months ago, he fell into the clutches of Rafiqul Islam alias Bagha Dalal, a member of the human trafficking gang of the nearby East Swaramangal village. According to the broker, Tashir left home to go to Italy illegally. First, he was sent to Libya via Dubai with Tk 25 lakh from Tashir. After arriving there, the Bangladeshi brokers living in Libya collected Tk 20 lakh ransom from the family after inhumane torture and detention. At one point, Tashir was admitted to a hospital in Libya when he fell seriously ill. By talking about the treatment, the broker gang snatched another two and a half lakh rupees. He died while under treatment at around 1 pm Bangladesh time on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Rafiqul Islam and his family members fled the house after the incident. After contacting his mobile number several times, the number was found to be closed.
Shahin Fakir, the brother of the deceased Tashir, said, “On Tuesday evening, a broker told me that my brother is no more.” Later, we look for Libya. A Bangladeshi in the detention center called and confirmed the death of my brother. He also sent us the photo of the dead body. Shahin Fakir also said, “I sold all the land and gave money to the broker to send my brother abroad. We are now destitute. My brother couldn’t go abroad, I can’t get the money back. I want the trial of Dalal Rafiq.
Esmotara Begum, the wife of the deceased Tashir, said, “I have three daughters.” Oh, what will happen? Where will I see it? All that we had was nothing. The broker took the money and took my husband’s life. He is repeatedly tortured and beaten. Beating with a lot of pain. I want justice for this.
In this regard, Rajoi Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mahfuzul Haque said that if a written request is made by the family, necessary measures will be taken to bring the body back to the country. He also assured that legal action will be taken against the brokers.
Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Investigation) Jahangir Alam said, ‘We have heard the news of the death of a young man in Libya due to torture by terrorists or brokers. Police have been sent to the victim’s house. If the family members go to the police station and file a written complaint against the brokers and accused persons, legal action will be taken.
