Teenager dies in electrical accident while filming TikTok video in Kishoreganj

A 15-year-old boy died after being electrocuted while attempting to film a social media video in Kishoreganj’s Nikli upazila on Saturday. The victim, identified as Md. Monayem, was attempting to capture footage for TikTok near the Nanshre bridge in the Karapasha union when the accident occurred.
Witnesses reported that Monayem, the son of local resident Rafiqul Islam, had climbed an electric utility pole near the bridge to film a dramatic leap into the haor water. While on the structure, he made contact with a live wire, suffering a severe electric shock that caused him to fall into the water below, where he quickly submerged and disappeared from sight.
Local residents initiated a search immediately following the fall but were unable to locate him. Emergency services, including the Nikli police and a specialized diving unit from the Fire Service and Civil Defense, were deployed to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the incident.
After an extensive nine-hour search operation, divers recovered Monayem’s body from the water at approximately 9:45 p.m. local time.
Nikli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mahabubur Rahman described the incident as a tragic loss of life and a stark reminder of the dangers associated with risky online trends. He urged the public to exercise greater caution and to refrain from engaging in hazardous activities for the sake of social media content.
